Rosie was in town and we managed to wrangle together five people for an outing. Rarely getting that many people together these days, this was even more remarkable because it was still Covid times and the first time in a while that the bunch of us got together.
|

It was my responsibility to find us somewhere to go and I was pretty happy that I thought of inland Howley instead of accepting the first thought, which is always some random forestry road.
While I'm not much of a beach fan during the summertime, I don't find it to be the worst thing in the offseason. |

Located adjacent to two significant lakes (Sandy Lake & Grand Lake), Howley provides a lot of coastline - coastline that's almost entirely exposed sand when the lake levels are this low.

Isy was left wondering why we'd never come here to swim, which we then remedied a couple of years later. This included carrying the dog into the water as he hates swimming. |

Maybe the coolest part of this walk was the old railway lift bridge. |

Occasionally tug boats involved in lumbering would need to move between the two lakes here, at which point a CN employee would come out and operate the weights that lifted the bridge and let boats pass.
The weights were cut off sometime after the railway was abandoned in 1988. |

Travelling in two cars, we all stopped for the herd of caribou on the drive in, but I was the only one to get out for a picture of Howley's Anglican Church as we were leaving, lol.
Anyway, a pleasant stroll only an hour's drive from Corner Brook. |
